As our nation celebrates the tandem of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s memory and Barack Obama's inauguration as the first African American U.S. President, GCORR is offering many reflections on its Web site (www.gcorr.org), including a special online publication titled A Conversation on Race. - The General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR) leads The United Methodist Church in fostering racial justice, inclusiveness and reconciliation in the church and throughout society. We support church agencies, institutions, annual (regional) conferences, congregations and racial/ethnic caucuses in their quest to overcome racism and achieve racial/ethnic inclusiveness. GCORR is one of six United Methodist general commissions charged with addressing specific areas of concern. Religion and Race was established in 1968 to challenge and help the denomination’s agencies, institutions, annual (regional) conferences and congregations to achieve full, equal participation among racial and ethnic minority constituencies in the total life and mission of the Church. The Commission strives to accomplish this task through education and advocacy and by reviewing, monitoring and supporting The United Methodist Church’s efforts to ensure racial inclusiveness and foster racial justice and reconciliation. Our office is located in The United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. Our General Secretary is Erin Hawkins.
